Speaking to reporters this week Erdogan said that regulations requiring ballot box officials to be civil servants had not been met everywhere. The AKP has already requested the annulment of the election in Istanbuls Buyukcekmece district citing irregularities in voter records. Erdogan had said on Monday that organized crime had marred the election in Istanbul. The ruling Justice and Development Party won the right for a recount of votes that were previously deemed invalid. But on Sunday not just of ballots that were canceled. Mr Erdogan responded by threatening currency speculators. Mr Erdogan and his allies want to teach Mr Yavas a lesson. Mr Erdogan has since threatened that Mr Yavas will pay a heavy price after the elections suggesting he may be removed from office. Mr Erdogan has indeed used every weapon in his arsenal to galvanise his religious base. Barring a truly calamitous showing and calls for an early general election Mr Erdogan will not face another vote for up to four years
